There was tremor of excitement around school on Friday as nine members of the Defence Force flew in on a Sea Sprite Helicopter and landed in the middle of the front field.

The visit was organised by SSGT H.J. Palatchie, Senior Regional Recruiting NCO, Christchurch.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force Helicopter, usually found at the Ohakea Air Base, was based in Christchurch all week. A crew arrived 15 minutes before the 2pm landing to make sure the school field was prepared correctly, before the helicopter landed on the main front field.

When the chopper was turned off, the students entered the field and listened to several crew members describe the aircraft before answering various questions from the students. Then the students could take a closer look at the impressive piece of machinery.

After the school visit, which included the boys being allowed to explore the aircraft, the crew took off again, leaving a raft of inspired students in their wake.
