Earthquake Update – 25 Feb 2011
Greetings from St Bede’s
I hope that this note finds you safe and as well as can be expected. We know many of you have been directly affected, while others are caring for members of your extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
We are also aware that there has been serious injury and loss of life in our Bedean community. Over the next few days we will be able to inform you in more detail of these tragedies.
We are currently awaiting developments in order to give a clear indication of when the school can reopen. At this stage there is minimal damage to the school but we must wait for an inspection by structural engineers before allowing students and staff to safely return. All staff will be contacted by the phone tree on Monday February 28 for an update on when this process will be completed. It is however becoming increasingly obvious that school will remain closed for at least another week.
However, we do have power and water at school and would like to offer any of those in need of water or a shower an opportunity to use the school facilities. If you would like to take advantage of this please contact Mark Vincent 021 725 412. The only proviso is that you come onto the property at your own risk (prior to the final OK being given for the buildings).
We also acknowledge that some staff who have not been affected by the earthquake would like to offer assistance to other staff members and Bedean community. We would like to mobilise students and staff to assist families in need. If you could be of assistance in helping others either email rector@stbedes.school.nz or text or phone Mark Vincent 021 725 412.
We look forward to seeing you soon and hope for your continued safety and well being.
Justin Boyle
Rector
St Bede’s College.
