earthquake update 2 March 2011

Greetings from St Bede’s

We can advise that the structural engineers will inspect our buildings on Friday and we are planning and preparing for a return to school as early as possible.

Information from the Ministry of Education website:
Years 9-13

Many secondary students will be anxious about their study and concerned they will fall behind. This may be a good time for students to learn about the Studyit website and to familiarise themselves with the helpful hints and advice.

If they have classmates nearby and it’s safe to meet up, they could study and revise together. Familiarise yourself with the Studyit website which has helpful hints and advice.

Helpful website for all students

AnyQuestions.co.nz is a free online reference service for New Zealand school students. Designed for both primary and secondary students, AnyQuestions puts them in touch with a skilled and friendly online librarian. Using interactive software and an agreed information literacy approach, these librarians can help school students identify the information they need, and then guide them to quality online resources.

AnyQuestions.co.nz focuses on supporting the New Zealand curriculum. It is accessible from any internet connected computer anywhere; school, library or home.

We realise that a number of our community have had to make alternative arrangements for schooling and accommodation. There are beds available in the Boarding school at all Year levels for current students (day boys) that have had to relocate and would like to become boarders. Whilst the number is limited some parents may wish to discuss this as either a temporary or permanent measure. Please contact Mark Vincent 021 725 412 for further information. Mark has also received from many current boarding families offers of accommodation for any members of the Bedean community who would like to have some time away from the City. Again speak to Mark for further details.

The Rugby trip to Japan has been cancelled.

Please pass on these messages to those that don’t have email, many emails are getting bounced back – apologies for that.
