Social Action Outreach Programmes
There are many ways of promoting Special Character within a school. One very positive way of doing this is to involve the students in a social action outreach programme whereby they are encouraged to develop a sense of awareness of the needs of other people within their community.
Year 9 – Nazareth House
Each Tuesday afternoon, a different small group of Year 9 boys is taken to Nazareth House, a Catholic Retirement Home, where they assist the caregivers in their work with the residents there. They are involved in such activities as: taking the residents for a walk around the garden, craftwork, playing cards, games, and chatting one on one.
Year 10 Primary School Service
Over 10 weeks of term 3 and 4, all of our Y10 pupils have had the opportunity to go out into local schools and spend a day working with the staff and
students. This has been an enjoyable and often eye opening experience for the boys but a very important
facet of their Y10 year. In 2010 the boys served at the following schools:

The social outreach programme is a wonderful opportunity for the boys to look beyond their own needs and see first hand the needs of others within the community. Promoting a sense of social awareness is seen as a valuable aspect of educating the whole person and echoes well the school motto – ‘by faith and work’.
