As well as learning to help each other in our day to day lives at the College, there are many organised opportunities at St Bede’s to serve others.
In the Junior school, for example, we collect for the Cancer Society on Daffodil Day, and students visit the residents at Nazareth House weekly. A major fundraising event held biennially is our CanTeen Run for a Life Campaign. Last year in 2016 we raised $115,204.95 to support young people living with Cancer.
As a Marist College, senior students can be involved in the Young Marist Neighbours and Marist Youth Leaders programmes.
There is also the SVO Group (Serving and Volunteering for Others) open to students of all year levels.
Some of our past activities have been:
– a letter writing programme in support of the human rights of others;
– Fairtrade actions – our students raised the profile of Fairtrade around Christchurch
– responsibilities such as with Tearfund, local mission (such as the homeless), International awareness (such as Fairtrade matters), volunteers (promoting younger student involvement), and awareness of political and religious persecution
