Celebrations, Memorials, Church Festivals, Feast Days

Our response to events and occasions is a way of developing, supporting and sustaining the faith and spiritual life of our College community. Many occasions are celebrations that lend themselves to goodwill, learning to get on with each other, learning about Jesus and his values, learning about significant Christian leaders who show us how to live out our Special Character. Other occasions support the Bedean community when things are not going so well, when friends, colleagues, students and their families experience loss, grief, sadness, sickness or just hard times. Special Character reminds us of what we are and how we can be a positive and friendly support to each other.

St Bede’s Feast Day is marked with a whole school liturgy and afterwards is followed up with activities that celebrate our Bedean identity: Fide et Opere – By Faith and Work.

Inter-house competitions begin with a Year 9 inter-house Haka competition. There is often an outdoor concert organised by senio students at lunch time and other year groups compete in sack races, tug of war and the infamous Mad Dash.

The College has recently introduced the Confirmed as a Bedean programme, for Year 9 students and their parents or caregivers.

The College Hogan Cup competition and the interschool Bishop Lyons Shield are also popular for both participants and audiences.
