St Bede’s College has a long established rugby tradition and the ESOL rugby programme has been successfully operating since 2002. In the period since its founding it has accepted players from Japan, Kenya, Denmark, Botswana, Cameroon, France, South Korea, Ethiopia, Chile, Wales, Zimbabwe, Catalonia, Uruguay and South Africa.
ESOL rugby students become fully integrated members of our school community and participate in all regular aspects of College life. This includes assemblies, the Eucharist and of course sport. They live on-site during term time but have the opportunity to spend time with host families during the holiday periods. The motto of the College is Fide et Opere (By Faith and Works) and our aim is to produce young men who are hardworking and live their lives by a code of good values and consideration of others. Our experiences with previous intakes of ESOL rugby players is that they also strive to live out this philosophy.
Parents should be assured that St Bede’s College welcomes and will look after their sons. We value the international aspect this programme brings to our College and we encourage the active involvement of parents.
