Success, Jazz and the Term ahead
Success for Oliver Davidson in World Dance Championships
Old boy Oliver Davidson has had a very successful trip to the World Dance Champs in LA recently. He writes:
"What an unbelievable week its been. I've been amazed by the competition and nervously enjoyed the thrill of all my performing. I've also met some really great people along the way and just loved being part of all the master classes before the championship started . . . today the championship culminated with me receiving two silver and bronze medals in my acting and dancing sections.
Secondly, I'm really proud, and so humbled to let you know I've been awarded a $20 000 US scholarship to study at the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts for two years. I can't quite believe I am writing this, as I only found out today! Also the New York Film Academy have offered me a month long workshop course. So thank you again.”
We wish Oliver all the very best as he now has many decisions to make regarding his future.
Jazz gig by Year 12 students
Two Year 12 students – Jonathan Boyle and Norbert Muller – entertained a sizeable crowd on Wednesday night with their performances at the Dim 7th Jazz Bar on Lincoln Road. Accompanied by Matteo (and Maui) Brennan and Matt McCarthy alongside others, Jonathan and Norbert each presented a set of songs, ranging from pop to jazz and reggae including original numbers. It was great to see fellow Bedeans there including old boys plus families to support them.
A busy term ahead
There is no let up in the Arts Faculty this term with a very busy schedule. This includes three NCEA Drama productions, a Variety concert in Week 8 plus lunchtime events, JazzQuest on Sunday, 6 August and the Voices Festival on Wednesday, 16 August.
Art students are also working hard with folio preparation beginning in earnest.
