The St Bede’s College Parent Teachers Association is an integral part of the Bedean community and has been so since the first grouping was established in 1949 and successive generations of parents have given of their time and skills to support the College.
The purpose of this organisation is to enable parents and staff to support the College. It provides voluntary workers for events such as the New Entrants Cocktail Party, Parent –Teacher interviews or the Black Tie Dinner. It is also involved in fund raising and looks to organise at least two events a year.
As a former Chairperson, Barbara Ermerins said – “the PTA is as much about ‘friend raising’ as it is about fundraising. We are aware of the financial demands placed on our parents and we always try to organise events that are not too expensive and allow parents and friends of the College to get together.”
During Term 4, the PTA together with Marian College host a Fair in the college grounds. This collaborative effort features old favourites such as produce and plant stalls, a white elephant stall, rides and entertainment.
The PTA meets monthly and new members are always welcome to attend or offer their support. For some, attending meetings may not appeal but there are other opportunities to help and this is one of the rewards of being involved with PTA.
The Annual General Meeting is held in March and Year 9 parents are especially welcome to attend.
