Old Boys Banner

The SBCOBA was formed in 16th November 1924 at a meeting presided over the the then Rector, Dr Victor Geaney. The first committee was elected at that time and since then the Association has payed an active part in keeping Old Boys in touch with one another and the College. Much of the success of the Association has been its regular programme of social events. These programmes have been many and varied across the years, and provide the means of maintaining old friendships.

Assistance to the College has been provided in many forms and Old Boys have been to the fore in the various funding campaigns that have substantially contributed to the facilities and programmes that exist today. In the 1930s Old Boys raised over one thousand pounds to clear the debt on the Chapel, having previously donated annual prizes and funding for scholarships.

The Association has actively supported Old Boy priests working in the mission fields through the Mission Fund that was established in 1963. Contributions to this fund have generally been in the form of voluntary donations from Old Boys who have been most generous to this cause.

For many years the Bedean Bulletin was issued several times a year and was a vital communications link within the Old Boys network and also to the broader Bedean community. More recently this publication has become the responsibility of the College, working in conjunction with the Old Boys’ Association. In 2007 a revamped Bedean News was published with a renewed interest in the activities of Old Boys.
