Much of the success of the Association has been its regular programme of social events. These programmes have been many and varied across the years, and provide the means of maintaining old friendships.

Historically the Old Boys Association has undertaken a number of activities that sit outside the normal range of social events. In a sense these undertakings reflect the guiding philosophies of the College and are very much ‘good works’. Old Boys over the decades have generously supported these initiatives and continue to do so in the present. These include:

  • The Mission Fund established in 1963, supports Old Boys who are Priests and missionaries. Contributions to this fund have generally been in the form of voluntary donations from Old Boys who have been most generous to this cause.
  • The War Memorial Trust was set up to assist the sons of Old Boy Servicemen. It continues to support boys at the College.
  • The 75th Jubilee Endowment Trust is used to support a range of initiatives at the College.
  • The Year 13 presentation of Old Boys ties has become a tradition on the last day of formal schooling for leavers. Old Boys donate a tie and it is presented to a Year 13 student.

  • TBA – 50 Year Reunion

    • Recent Focus

    The Association has been closely involved in planning for the centennial for the past four years. Specifically this involved:

  • Organising a luncheon following Feast Day Mass for 100 old boys
  • Supporting the launch of the Centennial History, “Faith of our Fathers”, written by old boy David McCarthy
  • Successfully staging the annual mass and dinner
  • Presentation of a Centennial Gift to the College of a series of graphic murals depicting Bedean icons.
  • Sponsoring the centennial art work.

    • Other Events and Reunions held in the lead up to the Centennial:

  • the Annual Golf Tournament at Waitakiri
  • the Old Boys Hockey challenge – against the College 1st X1
  • Rowing Dinner Reunion and Cap Presentation
  • First XV Rugby Reunions
  • Former Athletics and Cross Country Champions Reunion
  • Men of the 80′s Reunion

    • The Executive

    The work of SBCOBA has been carried on by successive voluntary executives.
    Thanks are due to these men who have willingly given of their time and skill to the Association and the College.
