Curriculum Developments
In reviewing curriculum developments in 2009, Assistant Principal Dr Rachael Hawkey summarised a number of factors:
- The mandatory implementation of the Revised Curriculum at the start of 2010 saw a continuation of work in this area on a number of levels. One value from the curriculum was selected per term and became a focus of assemblies, school activities and Professional Development for teaching staff. These values were Excellence, Integrity, Community and Participation and Respect. Principles of the curriculum were surveyed in our College context and faculties worked on improving the use of thinking tools in each subject area.
- The growing awareness of the importance of providing suitable pathways for each individual student at and beyond school has seen greater emphasis being given to the process of subject selection and the availability of careers advice.
- The range of teaching subjects at the College continued to expand, including Careers and Tourism in the senior school, Electronics at Year 12 and Drama reinstated at Year 13.
- 2009 marks the conclusion of two major initiatives with which St. Bede’s College has been involved over the past three to five years: Raising Achievement for All (RAFA) and the ICT PD cluster.
