Graphics Technology
Graphics Technology is a popular subject which aims to develop a students understanding of design and to develop the skills to visually communicate their thoughts and ideas. At a junior level this subject focuses on developing the practical skills of 2D and 3D drawing and a basic understanding of the process of designing products, from conception through to prototyping. Graphics Technology reinforces learning in a number of other subjects taught in the school such as English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. This encourages studies to understand different subject content in a design context.
St. Bede’s College reflects the new curriculum in its teaching programme and in its assessment procedures.
Senior Graphics
The Senior Graphics course as a three year learning journey. Years 11 and 12 are spent learning the fundamentals of the design process and the various drawing systems they will use to express their design ideas. In Year 13 students have an opportunity to use these skills independently in the three areas of study. Students will develop their own design brief and produce outcomes that meet clients’ needs.
The programme has been designed so that over the three years a diverse selection of topics will both motivate and inform students.
The areas of study are:
- Architectural and Environmental Design – Interior, building and landscape design
- Engineering or Technological Design – Product/mechanical design and modeling
- Media or Technical Illustration Design – Promotional material and image creation
Level 1, 2 and 3 Assessment
There are no external examinations. External assessment is carried out on work produced from three areas of study throughout the year. This is sent away for marking.
