Yr 13 Digitech
The aim of a course at this level is to enable our students to live and contribute competently to society in an ever-changing information age. This course should not be viewed as direct preparation for a career in computing. It nevertheless aims to prepare students to take their place in a tertiary course of computing or to move comfortably as users of computers into a world of commerce and industry where this technology is commonplace. Preference will be given to students who successfully gained all of the credits offered from the Year 12 course in 2009. Students who have not gained the required number of credits or who did not complete an ICT course at Year 11 or Year 12 should consider the Year 12 course.
Learning Outcomes
This course will build on students’ knowledge gained at Years 11 and 12. Computers and associated technology are vital tools used by industries in a variety of ways. The additional National Certificate offered aims to provide a qualification for initial employment in computing and/or enhance readiness for further study in computing and related fields.
For students contemplating university study, note that Generic Computing is on the approved list of subjects for University Entrance.
All students will be given the opportunity to gain the National Certificate in Computing
(Level 3). A total of 52 credits are required for this qualification, and these must come from the following fields:
Compulsory: The three unit standards specified are required. Note that these are Level 1 and Level 2 standards, but are compulsory to gain the Level 3 National Certificate.
Elective A: A minimum of 20 credits at Level 3 is required from the Computing sub-field.
Elective B: A maximum of 5 credits at Level 3 or above is required from the Business Administration sub-field.
Elective C: The balance of credits required is a minimum of 40 credits at Level 3 or above. These may come from any other unit or achievement standards on the NQF.
