Yr 10 Agri-Technology
This semester course aims to allow students to understand the basic husbandries of agricultural products through a variety of different topics. These will include an overview of New Zealand Agriculture; growth, development and reproduction of plants and animals; and pest control.
Students will research technological developments as solutions to meet the demands of the production of agriculture products, in order to understand the importance of technology on the 21st century New Zealand farm.
Students will:
- Understand the history of New Zealand farming and why it is so important to the New Zealand economy
- Identify the latest range of agricultural technologies and be aware of their importance to Agriculture
- Research the history of and subsequent technological advances in the growing of an agricultural product
- Research and describe relevant bio-technologies used to improve productivity
- Write a brief and specifications, and use information technology to produce a promotional brochure and business card for an agricultural business
During the semester students will develop communication skills and gain technological knowledge and understanding of primary production through projects, assignments and homework. This will develop an awareness of the importance and effects technology has on New Zealand Agriculture.
A technical bursary maybe available to boarding pupils undertaking this course.
