Yr 9 Maori
As part of the Year 9 language options, Maori is taught to all new entrants in conjunction with Japanese and Spanish in three trimesters during the year. Students rotate after (approximately) thirteen weeks of study.
Achievement Objectives Level 5 Yrs 9 & 10
Students will be able to
- Listen to and understand spoken language in Maori in familiar contexts studied in class
- Give a prepared talk in Maori from a context studied in class
- Read and understand written language in Maori in contexts studied in class
- Write sentences in Maori in contexts studied in class
- Show an understanding of Maori culture and customs from a context studied in class
The course is designed as a basic introduction to Teo Reo Maori. The emphasis is on vocabulary, pronunciation and speech making.
There are five assessments:
- Understanding spoken language
- Understanding written language
- A prepared talk
- Writing in Maori
- A project
