Yr 9 Literacy & Learning Support
This course provides extra tuition and support for students whose literacy skills are below the average working level for their year.
In Year 9, individual needs are addressed through a structured programme of reading, comprehension, spelling and grammar which runs during the options block in the timetable. This gives pupils three extra periods in literacy each week. Support is also given in class.
Learning Difficulties
Reader/Writer assistance is also available during all examinations for students with diagnosed learning difficulties. Students in this situation need to advise the school of their needs at the beginning of the year, so that they may be fully supported in class and during assessments.
It is a requirement of NZQA that the school can verify that a pupil has had ongoing support throughout their time at the college, before allowing them a reader/writer for external exams.
Parents, if you feel your son needs learning support, please make his needs known to the department, to enable us to put strategies in place to make his school experience the most positive it can be.
