Yr 12 Art Design

Art Design allows students to specialise in design techniques and procedures through drawing as a central means of study. The aim of the course is to introduce the design process in Art. Students will become familiar with industry practice in the particular ways designers treat their subject matter, ideas and design problems based on traditional and contemporary design movements.

Students will learn computer skills in Photoshop and Freehand to solve design problems.

The prerequisite for Yr 12 Art Design is 12 credits at Level 1 Art. Assessment is at NCEA Level 2.

Internally Assessed Achievement Standards
AS 90474 6 Credits Research information, methods and ideas in the context of a drawing study in design
AS 90475 6 Credits Generate and develop ideas using drawing processes and procedures in design practice
Externally Assessed Achievement Standards
AS 90235 12 Credits Produce a body of work within design to show understanding of art-making methods and ideas

The prerequisite for Year 13 is 18 Credits at level 2.

Achievement Objects Level 6, 7 & 8   (Yrs 11, 12 & 13)

Students will:

  • Extend skills with techniques, tools and materials for particular art making purposes using appropriate processes and procedures.
  • Generate, develop and refine visual ideas in a body of work in response to two dimensional, three dimensional, and design problems.
  • Sequence and link ideas in a body of work using imagination, observation and invention with materials.
  • Identify and analyse the processes, procedures, and art marking traditions that influence selected artists’ way of working.
  • Analyse and describe how art making processes and procedures clarify meaning and intentions in their own and others work.
  • Investigate the purpose and significance of contemporary art works.
