Yr 13 Music
Level 3 Music provides students with an exciting opportunity to specialise in those aspects of the course that particularly interest them. A wide range of achievement standards is available in two broad areas – Making Music (MKMU) and Music Studies (MUST) and it is possible for students to design their own course. Again, involvement in a music group such as the orchestra, choir, jazz group or rock bands would be a definite advantage for assessment purposes.
Achievement Objectives Level 6, 7 & 8 (Yr 11, 12 & 13)
Students will:
- Research and analyse music from a range of styles and genre, in relation to contexts and reflect on the influence of music in their own lives.
- Integrate aural, practical and theoretical skills in analyzing, applying and evaluating expressive features and conventions of music.
- Create, structure, refine and represent compositions and arrangements and reflect on the composition process.
- Plan, rehearse, present, record, evaluate and refine individual and group performances of music and reflect on music performances.

Availability of some Achievement Standards will depend on demand from students. Some will not be offered in any one year.
Given that there are 48 credits possible at this level, music may be taken as two subjects for the year. This will be decided on an individual basis in consultation with the Head of Faculty and the Deputy Rector – Curriculum.
Some Achievement Standards at Level 3 are approved for entry to tertiary study.
