Hockey
Training has been in full swing since the term started with rigorous sessions 4 days a week for skills and fitness and 6 aside games on Friday. Liam Koorey has created a pre-season training programme to make the St Bedes squads the fittest on the pitch and the most competitive. The club is growing from the bottom up and will have 5 teams up from 3 two years ago. With 5 professional coaches and the water based pitch out back we have everything you need to develop your hockey talents right here. The pitch has been developed in conjunction with the North West Trust, the School and Marist Hockey. Without the combined support the project to build it might never have started. The impact of the quakes on Canterbury hockey would have gone from disastrous to catastrophic.
Registration
If you have not already registered at a training session then 18th March 2012 at 4pm is the day to come along – parents and players – and learn more about the club. 1st XI plays Friday nights in season and the other teams are Saturday or Sunday so it is possible to play other codes and hockey depending on your appetite for competition at all levels!
Affiliation
We acknowledge and thank High School Old Boys through which we have affiliated to Canterbury Hockey Association for a number of years thanks to Andrew Brydon’s ambition to see the St Bede’s Hockey Club regenerate to its former heights. This year we affiliate through the Marist Hockey Club. In association with Marist we have created an Academy which runs for 23 sessions through the year for 10 St Bedes Boys and 10 Marist girls. The programme director is Reuben Koorey who brings international players to St Bedes to give the insights that will give our players of the future the edge over their rivals. The Academy is by invitation and aims to improve the skills in players with future potential to compete at the highest levels.
Marist Men’s Hockey
Marist will field a Men’s hockey team for the first time and some St Bedes boys will have the chance to play along side Liam Koorey, Bjorn Dix and other St Bedes Old boys who are forming the back bone of the side.
Part of the Club’s philosophy is about creating pathways for boys in to other clubs and we have a dedicated committee working to a 3 year strategic plan. This combined with Liam’s drive and energy should make the St Bede’s Hockey Club a great option for any Bedean!
Cost Hockey Subs 2011: Junior Hockey teams $250, 1st XI Hockey team $300 (to be confirmed)
