David Lindstrom, Head Coach St. Bede’s Rowing
The regatta of the 4th – 6th February in Twizel was a fantastic weekend of rowing for St. Bede’s College.
The boys won 5 gold medals, 3 silver, and 4 bronze medals. And what a result for the Under 17 8 beating Christ’s College in a fantastic race. Also of note, from a squad perspective, was that we had 19 crews rowing in finals. Well down, lads.

Report from Coaches
Since our last report we have had two major regattas (Cant Champs and Sth Island Champs) along with our 4 day training Camp at Lake Dunstan.
Some very good work has been completed by all our team. We managed to clock up 60 km per day on Lake Dunstan. This will pay dividends with all our crews when we get to the sharp end of our training build up.
Congratulations to Fred Coughlan and Phil Ellis who have been selected to race in the Avon novice 8+ at the Club Nationals to be held at Lake Karapiro in the third week of February.
Our excellent results at the South Island Club Champs confirm that we are on track to making some very fast boats for the 2010 Maadi Cup.
Of special note is the win in the U17 8+ in 6 mins 16 sec which is an excellent result and a real step in the right direction to making our mark in the big eights at Maadi Cup.
At this point we are definitely on target to making fast boats in the following:
- U15 4x, 2x,
- U16 4x,2x,8+
- U17 4x,2x,8+,4+
- U18 4x,2x,8+,L/W 4+
- Novice 4+
Finally our coxswains showed the benefit of their recent training session with Izzy (coxswain) from the Southern High Performance Centre.
Thanks must go to all the parents that made the running of the training camp and regattas at Twizel such a success.
