St Bede’s feast day was held on 21 May 2010. Celebrations commenced with the opening of Marist Park the $1.3M Polygras Olympia Hockey Turf by the Northwest Christchurch Community Sporting Trust in association with St Bede’s College. A blessing was given by Father Mark Walls SM, the hockey turf signage was unveiled and a haka was given by the entire assembly of St Bede’s College Students.
The Year 9 Haka competition won by Mannix was judged by Tabai Matson, Michael Stewart (2005-2009) and Fr Mark Walls. Senior students have spent much time during the term coaching their Year 9 house members to produce fine performances.
Our Feast Day Mass followed with music by the school orchestra and members of the choir and had as its theme service to the community. At the culmination of the Mass we presented gifts to Barry Watson (Foundation), Brian McCrorie (Old Boys Association) and Barbara Emerins (PTA) in recognition of their outstanding and distinguished service to the Bedean Community. Combined they have contributed almost one hundred years of voluntary service to St Bede’s. Again the entire student body gave a spine tingling haka in honour of these three.
In the afternoon there was an informal programme starting with an inter-house sack race followed by a variety concert in the hall featuring performances from the wide range of cultural groups in the College.
